ODE TO GRANDMOTHERS
You look at the youth around you,
And reflect back on a far-flung day.
Clear as a picture, it comes back,
You've remembered so many times,
But every time in a different way.
The sights that have passed through your eyes,
Forever etched in the glass of your heart.
Locked away, in timeless fashion,
Wanting now to escape, wisdom to impart.
Pass on your youthful remembrances,
Give to the generations of your blood.
So many thoughts and ideas stored,
Awaiting the right questions.
To bring back all of your hopes in a flood.
So grant us a dream on this day of joy,
Tell us of the days you have known
Let us learn at the knee of knowledge,
Help us to reap the garden you have sown.
