THE
ROOF TOP LOUNGE
A Four Star Boutique Hotel in the Heart of Phoenix, Arizona
The Clarendon Hotel once a “haunted house” notorious for a car bombing and entertaining old Hollywood celebrities continues to attract
the young and “hip.”

Folks, this historical landmark is no Ritz Hotel. The swanky hotel attracts a multitude of people with different classes and lifestyles
interested to stay in a part of history. Also, did I mention the Clarendon was once the backdrop for a gruesome tragedy?

Enter Don Bolles, an Arizona Republic reporter, who was killed at the hotel by a bomb left under his car on June 2nd, 1976. Bolles was
supposed to meet a tipster outside the hotel about a mafia and politician scandal but was set up to his death. A bomb blew up while
Bolles was in the car and killed him, according to the Arizona Republic.

Bill Bethel, brother of Clarendon Hotel’s owner Ben Bethel said Bolles’ leg ended up on a nearby street. Bill showed me black and white
photos of what happened that day. The hotel proudly displays images of Bolles’ blown up car and his body covered by a bloody sheet.

“This place has so many stories to tell,” Bill said, “more than any hotel in Phoenix.”
